Pear Shape Title

The Pear Shape Fit

pear.gif

Pear shapes have shoulders that are narrow compared to the hips. Pear shapes also have large hips and a smaller waist.  The main goal for pear shapes is to pair your jeans with tops that show off your lean upper body. You can accentuate a little waist by tucking tops into jeans with a medium to high rise.

Best Fitting Pear Shape Jean

The best fitting pear jean would be boot cut jeans in dark washes since they help balance out your fuller hips. Also, since pear shapes have a smaller waist, try mid to high-rise jeans to accentuate the smallest part of your body which is your natural waist. Trouser cuts are perfect for pear shapes since they are cut more generously and they have more room in the hips and thighs.

For fabric, try a lightweight to medium stretch denim for added comfort, but not with too much give! For example, we would definitely not recommend jeggings for pear shaped women.

What to Avoid

As a pear shape, your goal is to put the spotlight on top…meaning you want to downplay your hips by showing off features starting from head to waist. Take Kristin Davis and Jennifer Love Hewitt, both are pear shapes wearing two different style of jeans…you can decide which jean looks better, but we’ll give you our take on it.

On the left: Kristin plays up her pear shape by picking a great boot cut jean that cinches on her well defined waist.

On the right: Jennifer picks a simple tank top and jean look but misses the boat on shape completely. The loose fit and leg style gives her extra proportions she shouldn’t want or need. Pear Shapes take a hint! This type of jean is not meant for your body.

Also What to Avoid

-thigh sanding and whiskering as these tend to accentuate your larger areas. For those with a fuller seat, stick to standard back pockets. Otherwise choose any style features you like!

-Anything that has too much embroidery, or flaps on seat are all big nos for pear shapes.

-wearing capris during warm months

-anything with too low of a rise will also do you no good. You need a jean with full support in the hips and that sits near your natural waist.
