Whiskering Title
Basic Definition
Whiskering is a hand detailed treatment in which faded lines are applied to the denim to mimic the subtle creases in the area surrounding the crotch (and possibly thighs and knees) in order create a slimming effect on the hips and thighs by drawing the eye downward.

How It’s Done
Whiskering is done commercially with steel rasps, belt sanders, or even by hand with fine grit sandpaper. The denim is rubbed in natural wear places (such as the tops of thighs or the back of the knees) to create texture and depth.

History
Whiskering is the natural wear pattern on an old pair of jeans. Nowadays designers have taken whiskering to a new level by applying it to brand new garments to give them that well worn feel.

Style Advice
Whiskering is good for anyone who feels self conscious about their hips since the V-shape of the whiskering directs the eye down and therefore slims the person wearing the jeans. Since whiskered jeans tend to look a little more worn in and comfortable they aren’t necessarily appropriate for a nice evening out or any place that requires more formal attire. However they are a nice addition to any denim collection because of their unique look and are great for relaxed weekends or after work. Whiskered jeans can come in any wash, so whatever your preference this finish could work for you.
