Distressed Denim Title
Basic Definition
Distressed denim are jeans that already have that great, worn-in look. The word distressing, itself, is typically used to referred to the sanded and tattered pocket and hem edges (see above), but has been expanded to refer to all treatments that involve destruction of the jeans (think holes, sanding, grinding, tears, scratches, etc.). Distressing treatments are generally done by hand, using sandpaper, making every jean slightly unique.

History
Renzo Rosso, the owner/designer of Diesel jeans, credits himself with starting the distressed denim as luxury fashion trend 20 years ago. Before that distressed denim was actually just jeans that someone had owned for a long time. Distressed denim was a way of showing off how long you had worn your jeans.

Style Advice
Distressed denim can be worn with any body shape and any jean style. Pair distressed denim with a neutral gray top and bright accessories. Try a structured jacket and nice sandal or flats. Also, a rough pair of distressed denim paired with a floaty, girly top gives a nice contrast in styles.
